1952 – Santiago Ramón y Cajal (1852-1934), Spanish biologist and pathologist; described Interstitial Cell of Cajal (ICC), Cajal-Retzius Cells, Cajal Body, Cajal’s Stain and his Neuron Doctrine (or Neuron Theory). Shared Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (1906) with Camillo Golgi (1843-1926)

1900 – Sergei Sergeievich Korsakoff Серге́й Серге́евич Ко́рсаков (1854-1900), Russian psychiatrist; described Korsakoff Syndrome (1887)
1962 – Pío Manuel Martínez Curbelo (1906-1962), Cuban anaesthesiologist who reported the first lumbar epidural catheter technique for continuous segmental (“peridural”) anaesthesia in 1947
