2011 – Sci-Hub was launched by Alexandra Elbakyan, becoming the most prominent “shadow library” for scholarly articles and a flashpoint in the open-access debate by providing free access to paywalled research at massive scale. Praised by some as a protest against publishing barriers and condemned by others as systematic copyright infringement.

1816 – Ernest-Charles Lasègue (1816-1883), French Physician; described Lasègue sign (1864), and Lasègue-Falret syndrome (1877) [*aka Folie à deux]
1858 – Eugen von Bamberger (1858-1921), Austrian internist; described Bamberger–Marie syndrome (1889)
1896 – Rudolf Nissen (1896-1981), German general surgeon; described the Nissen fundoplication
