1811 – Heinrich Georg Küchler (1811-1873), German ophthalmologist. First to publish printed vision-test charts the Schriftnummerprobe für Gesichtsleidende (1843)
Deaths
1895 – Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig (1816-1895), German physician. Invented the kymograph (1847) allowing graphical recording of physiological events.
2008 – Cesarino Romano (1924-2008), Italian paediatrician; described Romano-Ward Syndrome (1963)
