1849 – Jules-Joseph Déjerine (1849-1917), Swiss-French neurologist; described Landouzy-Dejerine syndrome (1884), Dejerine-Sottas Disease (1893), Dejerine-Roussy syndrome (1906), Dejerine-Thomas syndrome (1900) and provided one of the first modern descriptions of agraphia
Deaths
2003 – Peter Josef Safar (1924-2003), Austrian physician. Described as the “Father of modern resuscitation” and “founder of critical care medicine.” Driving force behind mouth-to-mouth ventilation, the development of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and the establishment of intensive care units.
