Ferdinand Ritter von Hebra
Ferdinand Karl Franz Schwarzmann, Ritter von Hebra (1816-1880) was an Austrian physician and dermatologist.
Founder of the New Vienna School of Dermatology. First German language professor in Dermatology, at Vienna General Hospital (1849)
Authored one of the most influential dermatological texts of all time – Atlas der Hautkrankheiten (Atlas of skin diseases) from 1856–1876, a monumental work printed in 10 installments, with mostly life-sized illustrations. illustrations were created by two Viennese painter physicians, Anton Elfinger (1821-1864) and Carl Heitzmann (1836-1896). Each issue of the Atlas was dedicated to a group of disorders which affected the skin.
Member of the triad of medical scientists – Dreigestirn with Carl von Rokitansky (1804-1878); and Joseph Škoda (1805–1881). They were responsible for the revival of Vienna as the great medical center of the world in the mid-19th century
