Emergency Musical Interlude (EMI) 033: Anaesthetic
Dr Lachlan McIver is an Aussie rocker, based in Switzerland, recording cheeky, ironic, melodic, apocalyptic punk tunes in his basement. Influences include Offspring, Green Day, NOFX, Frenzal Rhomb and Blink 182, with a sly twist of older classics like the Rolling Stones and Led Zep.
Dr McIver is also a rural generalist and public health physician with over a decade’s experience visiting, living and working around the South Pacific. He has a PhD in Pacific islander health and is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Tropical Medicine at James Cook University.
Lachlan is founder and director of the charity Rocketship [Remote Opportunities for Clinical Knowledge, Education and Training and Support for Health In The pacific]. He is also the Tropical Diseases & Planetary Health Advisor at the Geneva Headquarters of Médecins Sans Frontières.
He swaps his stethoscope and scuba gear for a snowboard when he commutes between Australia, Vanuatu and Switzerland.
My aim is to make interesting music that sounds cool, but also makes you think, makes you smile, and maybe makes you feel a bit uncomfortable too. Life is hard, humans are complicated, we’re all dying and the world is ending, so let’s at least give our ears a good time before we go!
