The Best of #FOAMcc Critical Care and #FOAMres Resuscitation

Josh Farkas discusses the elusiveness of using mortality as the primary endpoint in studies. For one, it requires large studies to find small differences in a population that is heterogeneous with already decreasing mortality rates. Maybe we need more trials looking at proximal endpoints (i.e. ventilator-free days)? [SR]

Nice review by Core EM on the FELLOW Trial: Apneic Oxygenation in the ICU. Alas, two-thirds of patients were not apneic in this trial, questioning primary results of this study. [SR]

Casey Parker has started a new project on rural anesthesia for GP docs, but this topic applies to many EM and CC docs as well. Topics covered include Obstetric anesthesia, airway and intubation, suggamadex, Ketamine dosing, and gastric ultrasound. [SR]

The trial that has not gotten much love from the FOAM world just got some, as Adrian Wong dissects the APROCCHSS trial: Hydrocortisone and Fludrocortisone in Septic Shock. [SR]
