Events
1958 — AO founded in Biel, Switzerland. Thirteen Swiss surgeons met at the Hotel Elite in Biel to establish the Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen. Founding members included Maurice E. Müller, Robert Schneider, Hans Willenegger, Martin Allgöwer, Ernst Baumann and Walter Bandi. The group helped transform fracture surgery by standardising the principles, instruments, implants, documentation, and teaching of operative osteosynthesis.
