1942 – The Cocoanut Grove fire in Boston became the deadliest nightclub disaster in US history and a defining event in modern burn care. In the aftermath, surgeons Charles Carroll Lund (1883-1972) and Newton Clarence Browder (1893-1969) developed the age-adjusted Lund–Browder chart to estimate total body surface area (TBSA) burned.
