1813 – John Snow (1813-1858), English physician; one of the fathers of modern epidemiology (the cholera cartographer), and a leader in the development of anaesthesia, medical hygiene and public health.
1902 – Vladimir Mikhailovich Voskresensky (1902-1951), Russian military surgeon; described the Voskresensky symptom of appendicitis (симптом Воскресенского) (1940)
Deaths
1938 – Ismar Isidor Boas (1858-1938), German gastroenterologist; described Boas sign and Boas point (1894) and invented the Boas algesimeter (1891)
1977 – Karl-Axel Ekbom (1907-1977), Swedish neurologist. Described Ekbom Syndrome [delusional parasitosis](1938) and Willis-Ekbom syndrome [Restless leg syndrome (RLS)](1944)
