1867 – Harvard School of Dental Medicine established, with lectures first commencing on November 4, 1868. It was the first Dental school to grant the Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.
Births
1654– Alexis Littré (1654-1726), French anatomist and surgeon; described Littré’s Hernia (1700), Littré’s Glands, Littritis, and Littré’s Operation (1710)
1867– Walther Carl Eduard Kausch (1867-1928), German surgeon; performed the first successful partial pancreatoduodenectomy (1907) [Kausch-Whipple operation]
Deaths
1885 – Charles Thomas Stent (1807-1885), English dentist; queried as the likely origin of the term ‘Stent’
1955 – Aubrey Otis Hampton (1900-1955), American Radiologist; described Hampton hump (1940) and Hampton line (1956)
