Events

1867 Harvard School of Dental Medicine established, with lectures first commencing on November 4, 1868. It was the first Dental school to grant the Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.


Births

1654Alexis Littré (1654-1726), French anatomist and surgeon; described Littré’s Hernia (1700), Littré’s Glands, Littritis, and Littré’s Operation (1710)

1867Walther Carl Eduard Kausch (1867-1928), German surgeon; performed the first successful partial pancreatoduodenectomy (1907) [Kausch-Whipple operation]


Deaths

1885 Charles Thomas Stent (1807-1885), English dentist; queried as the likely origin of the term ‘Stent’

1955 Aubrey Otis Hampton (1900-1955), American Radiologist; described Hampton hump (1940) and Hampton line (1956)
