1867 – Harvard School of Dental Medicine established, with lectures first commencing on 4 November 1868. It was the first Dental school to grant the Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.

1654 – Alexis Littré (1654-1726), French anatomist and surgeon; described Littré’s Hernia (1700)
1867– Walther Carl Eduard Kausch (1867-1928), German surgeon; performed the first successful partial pancreatoduodenectomy (1907)
Deaths
1885 – Charles Thomas Stent (1807-1885), English dentist; queried as the likely origin of the term ‘Stent’
1955 – Aubrey Otis Hampton (1900-1955), American Radiologist; described Hampton hump (1940) and Hampton line (1956)
