1804 – Karel Freiherr von Rokitansky (1804-1878), Czech pathologist, physician and politician. Responsible for multiple eponymous terms including Rokitansky disease; Rokitansky syndrome; Rokitansky–Aschoff sinuses; Rokitansky-Maude Abbott syndrome; Rokitansky-Cushing ulcer; Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster syndrome; and the Rokitansky-Duguid-Astrup hypothesis
1834 – Herman Snellen Sr (1834-1908), Dutch ophthalmologist; described Snellen Chart and Optotypes (1862) and the Snellen Fraction (1862)
Deaths
1988 – André Frédéric Cournand (1895-1988), French physician. Awarded the 1956 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine along with Werner Forssmann and Dickinson W. Richards for their “discoveries concerning heart catheterization and pathological changes in the circulatory system.”
