1861 – Evan O’Neill Kane (1861-1932), American general surgeon; performed auto-appendicectomy on February 15, 1921
1870 – Oskar Vogt (1870-1959), German neurologist; described Vogt-Vogt syndrome (1919)
Deaths
1863 – William Hallock Park (1863–1939) was an American Immunologist; described Park–Williams Bacillus (PW8 strain, 1894), Park–Williams Fixative (1890), Park–Holt Pasteurised Milk (1903). Park was central to the medical confirmation of Mary Mallon (“Typhoid Mary”), the first recognized healthy carrier of Salmonella typhi in the United States.
1962 – Henri Mondor (1885-1962), French physician; described Mondor disease (1939), and Penile Mondor disease
1963 – Allen Oldfather Whipple (1881-1963), American surgeon; described Whipple procedure (1935) Pancreaticoduodenectomy and Whipple triad (1938)
