1982 – The European Paediatric Orthopaedic Society (EPOS) held its first official Annual Meeting at Hôpital Bretonneau, Paris. Thirteen founding surgeons including Henri Bensahel, Jörg Baumann, José Mesquita Montes, Dietrich Tönnis, John Sharrard, Predrag Klisić and Jørgen Reimers attended.

1674 – Jean-Louis Petit (1674-1750), French surgeon; described the Petit-type tourniquet (1718) and provided the earliest description of Colles fracture (1705)

1720 – Charles Bonnet (1720-1793) was a Swiss Genevan naturalist and philosopher; described Charles Bonnet syndrome (1760)

1854 – Paul Ehrlich (1854–1915), German physician-scientist. Pioneer of chemotherapy; fluorescein eye studies, immunology, and Salvarsan for syphilis.
