Toyota Land Cruiser LC003 watch

LC003 is the second confirmed model in the Toyota Land Cruiser watch series from the 1990s. Like the LC001, it is an analogue quartz dual-time watch incorporating a 24-hour disc and rotating compass bezel, allowing approximate direction to be determined from the position of the sun in the Northern Hemisphere.

Surviving examples retain the Maruman connection established with LC001 and use the same Seiko Instruments VX39 quartz movement. However, the LC003 differs significantly in construction. Surviving casebacks are marked ASSEMBLED IN HONG KONG, carry no Land Cruiser vehicle engraving and, unlike LC001, have no individual production number or limited-edition marking identified to date.

Three dial variants have been identified. 7108 LC003-01 for the white/white, 7109 LC003-02 for the green/black and 7110 LC003-03 for the blue/black variants.

Movement

Mechanically, LC003 is closely related to LC001. Both use the Seiko Instruments VX39 and the same 24-hour-disc sun-compass principle, but LC003 dispenses with the LC001 flip-top bridge in favour of a conventional unobstructed dial.

Caseback

The LC003 uses a press-fit stainless-steel caseback carrying the LC003 model designation but no Land Cruiser vehicle illustration. Unlike LC001, surviving examples are not individually numbered and no limited-edition inscription has been identified.

The caseback is marked WATER RESISTANT 10 BAR and ASSEMBLED IN HONG KONG. The internal surface of the caseback also carries Hong Kong manufacturing/assembly identification

Original packaging

Surviving LC003 sets have been found with a Land Cruiser-branded presentation box, warranty documentation, Maruman instruction manual and model-specific hang tag.

The original labels are valuable in reconstructing the series. They associate the green LC003-02 variants with the sequential product code 7109, while the JAN/EAN numbers (4902907571095). The white/white and blue/black variants are most probably LC003-01 and LC003-03, with product codes 7108 and 7110 respectively.

The transition from LC001 codes 7106–7107 directly to LC003 codes 7108–7110 provides further evidence that LC002 may not have entered commercial production. The LC designation may have been assigned during development, leaving LC002 unused or representing a model that was cancelled before release. No confirmed LC002 watch, packaging or contemporary documentation has yet been located.
