Toyota Land Cruiser Watches
During the 1990s, a series of Land Cruiser-branded watches appeared in Japan. Identified by model numbers LC001 to LC009, they ranged from compass and dual-time watches to chronographs, ana-digital and fully digital models.
Despite their distinctive designs and extensive Land Cruiser branding, remarkably little information about the series survives. Manufacturer attribution, production dates, model variants and even the complete range remain uncertain.
This page documents the watches from surviving examples, original packaging and instructions, contemporary auction records and period Japanese publications. It is an ongoing attempt to reconstruct the series…and track down the elusive LC002.

The Land Cruiser watch collection
LC001 — Sun compass and dual time
The LC001 is the first confirmed watch in the series combines a hinged flip-top case with a Seiko Instruments VX39 quartz movement, 24-hour display and rotating sun-compass bezel.
Black and green variants are known, with original packaging confirming product codes 7106 and 7107. Casebacks are individually numbered xxxx/1000.
LC002 — The missing Land Cruiser

LC002 has not been located. No confirmed watch, packaging, product label or contemporary reference has yet been identified.
Its absence remains one of the principal unresolved questions surrounding the series.
LC003 — Sun compass
The LC003 presents a more conventional interpretation of the VX39 platform, dispensing with the LC001 flip-top while retaining the 24-hour display and sun-compass system.
White, green and blue variants are known. Surviving examples are marked ASSEMBLED IN HONG KONG, an important clue to the manufacture of the series.
LC004 — Ana-digital
LC004 changes direction with a Miyota T240 analogue-digital movement, twin LCD displays and rotating sports bezel.
Blue and black variants are known, with original packaging confirming 7113 LC004-01 and an original retail price of ¥24,000.
LC005 — Chronograph
The LC005 is a substantial 42.2 mm analogue chronograph powered by the Seiko/Epson YM55A, combining 1/20-second timing with an internally rotating world-time bezel and external unidirectional steel bezel.
Black and blue variants have been identified.
LC006 — Three-window flip-top
LC006 returns to the hinged flip-top concept, but with an opaque cover pierced by three display apertures. A Seiko/TMI VX3J movement provides calendar and 24-hour indications, with green and black variants identified. Casebacks return to the individually numbered xxxx/1000 format.
LC007 — Compass-style field watch
One of the least documented watches in the series. LC007 uses a TMI VX39 quartz movement with central 24-hour hand, date display and prominent compass-style bezel. Black and green variants are known, but original packaging and product codes have not yet been confirmed.
LC008 — Flip-top chronograph
LC008 combines the flip-top case concept with the Seiko/Epson YM55A chronograph movement. White, green and black variants are known, with product codes 7122–7124 provisionally reconstructed from surviving packaging. Casebacks are individually numbered xxxx/1000
LC009 — Digital tool watch
The final confirmed numbered model is a large all-digital tool watch LC009 powered by the W820A movement. Two variants with contrasting black and white surrounds are known. Unlike several earlier models, LC009 has no individual production number on the caseback.
Surviving packaging reveals a sequence of four-digit product codes associated with individual LC models and colour variants. Confirmed labels currently extend from 7106 (LC001-01) to 7125 (LC009-01). The missing numbers provide potential clues to undocumented variants and the unresolved LC002.

Black and green LC007 variants are confirmed, but neither has yet been associated with an original product label. One or more of codes 7119–7121 may belong to LC007.
Who made the Land Cruiser watches?
Land Cruiser and Toyota branding is unequivocal, but the manufacturer of the complete watch series is less straightforward. Original packaging and instructions associate at least part of the range with Maruman Watch, while examination of surviving watches has identified movements from several Japanese manufacturers. These include Seiko Instruments, /TMI VX-series movements, the Miyota T240 in LC004 and Seiko/Epson YM55A chronographs in LC005 and LC008.
Product codes and JAN numbers
Original box labels reveal a remarkably orderly sequence of four-digit product codes, beginning with 7106 for LC001-01 and extending to 7126 within the known LC009 range. Individual colour variants generally received their own product code and LC suffix, while surviving labels also provide Japanese JAN/EAN-13 identifiers. The sequence has allowed several otherwise undocumented variants to be provisionally reconstructed.
There are, however, conspicuous gaps. Products 7111, 7112 and 7119–7121 remain unresolved, while no confirmed watch, packaging or documentation for LC002 has yet been located. The sequence therefore provides useful evidence, but unconfirmed product codes have deliberately been left open until original labels or contemporary documentation can be found.
Land Cruiser caseback

Land Cruiser identity extends well beyond the dial. Several models carry an engraved Land Cruiser vehicle illustration on the stainless-steel caseback, accompanied by the LAND CRUISER name and model designation. Some models, including LC001, LC006 and LC008, are individually numbered xxxx/1000, whereas others such as LC007 and LC009 carry no equivalent production number.
The recurring vehicle engraving depicts a contemporary Land Cruiser, although the exact model is difficult to determine. The watches pre-date the 100 Series, while the stylised illustration incorporates features reminiscent of both the 60 and 80 Series Land Cruisers. It may therefore represent a generic Land Cruiser design rather than a specific production model.
Original packaging and documentation
Surviving packaging provides some of the strongest evidence for reconstructing the series. Watches have been found with Land Cruiser-branded presentation boxes, Maruman instructions and warranty material, hang tags and product labels carrying the LC reference, four-digit product code, JAN/EAN-13 number and, in some cases, original retail price.
These materials allow physical watches to be linked to specific variants and provide evidence that cannot reliably be obtained from later auction descriptions alone. Unfortunately, documentation survives unevenly: some models can be tied directly to labelled packaging, while others—including LC007—remain known principally from surviving watches.
