1990s Land Cruiser watch collection

Citizen × ARACO Land Cruiser pair

A matching pair of gold-tone Citizen quartz watches carries a Land Cruiser vehicle illustration together with LAND CRUISER and ARACO V.I.U. branding. The watches were supplied with Citizen documentation and appear to have been produced as complementary men’s and women’s models.

The larger watch is reference 1030-344791 and contains a Japanese Citizen 1032A quartz movement. The smaller reference 5930-344804 contains a Citizen 5930A quartz movement. Both casebacks identify Citizen Watch Co., specify a Japanese movement and state CASED IN CHINA.

Their association with ARACO is particularly significant. Rather than being simply another Land Cruiser-branded consumer watch, the pair may have been produced as corporate, commemorative or presentation pieces associated with the company involved in Land Cruiser manufacture. Their precise date, distribution and the meaning of the V.I.U. inscription remain to be established.

Team Land Cruiser watches

A separate group of sports watches carries Team Land Cruiser or Toyota Auto Body branding. Team Land Cruiser (TLC) is Toyota Auto Body’s rally team and has competed in the Dakar Rally with Land Cruisers since 1995, providing a likely historical context for Land Cruiser competition watches appearing from the later 1990s onward.

Casio subsequently developed a documented relationship with the team. Toyota Auto Body material records Casio supplying G-Shock watches for Team Land Cruiser, and the relationship eventually developed into officially documented G-Shock × Team Land Cruiser collaboration models.

Earlier TLC-branded Casio watches are less well documented and will be added here as individual references and dates can be established.

Other Land Cruiser watches

Several additional Land Cruiser-branded watches have been identified which cannot yet be confidently associated with either the numbered LC001–LC009 series or the Team Land Cruiser watches. These include analogue sports watches, chronographs and the model sometimes identified as LC010 / Solar Cruise System.

Their presence demonstrates that Land Cruiser watches extended beyond the numbered series, but surviving examples often lack original packaging or documentation. They are therefore treated individually rather than assumed to form part of a common series.

“LC010” / Solar Cruise System

A solar-powered Land Cruiser sports watch has appeared with an LC010 attribution and retains a Land Cruiser vehicle motif closely related to that found elsewhere in the numbered series. Its construction and movement appear distinct from LC001–LC009, however, and its status as a genuine continuation of that sequence remains unproven.

Land Cruiser sports watch

A pair of conventional analogue sports watches has been documented with LAND CRUISER printed on the dial. Two closely related case and bezel designs are known. Manufacturer, movement and original distribution have not yet been established.

Land Cruiser chronograph

An unidentified analogue Land Cruiser chronograph has also been documented, with three chronograph registers, date at 3 o’clock and dial markings LANDCRUISER / CHRONOGRAPH / WATER RESISTANT / 100 METRES. The example examined has an unsigned stainless-steel caseback. Its manufacturer and relationship to the other 1990s Land Cruiser watches remain unknown.
